Haiku with Objects

Broad Canyon, NM, 1978

There used to be an old rock house at Silva Spring in upper Broad Canyon. When I was up there one day, I got the idea to hang a cow vertebrae on the door. It seemed like an effective composition, and an effective blend of archetypes: weathered wood and bleached bone.

This stark blend of wood and bone is like haiku because it says exactly what it says and no more. But in so saying, says it all.
